Codex Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Codex Android app, package name codex.app. Codex lets users run local coding-agent tools on an Android device and, when the user chooses, connect to third-party AI services.
Information Codex Handles
Codex may handle the following information when you use the app:
- Account or authentication information that you choose to enter, such as sign-in tokens or API keys.
- Prompts, commands, source code, files, terminal output, and other content that you choose to process in the app.
- Runtime logs, diagnostics, crash information, device information, and app performance information used to operate and improve the app.
- Purchase, subscription, advertising, or app-install information processed by Google Play, Google AdMob, or related Google services if those features are shown in the app.
How Information Is Used
Information is used to provide the app's core functions, including:
- Running local coding-agent workflows and maintaining local runtime state.
- Connecting to AI providers or developer tools that you explicitly configure or sign in to.
- Showing app status, repair, setup, and diagnostic information.
- Maintaining app security, reliability, billing, ads, analytics, and crash reporting where applicable.
Third-Party Services
Codex may send information to third-party services only when needed for a feature you use or for standard app operation. These services may include Google Play, Firebase, Google AdMob, OpenAI, OpenRouter, OpenCode-related services, or other AI providers and developer services that you configure. Their use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.
Device Permissions
Codex may request Android permissions such as internet access, storage or file access, notifications, camera, microphone, location, calendar, or other permissions depending on the features you use. The app uses granted permissions to provide the requested feature and does not require optional permissions unless that feature needs them.
Data Storage, Security, and Retention
Codex stores app data locally on your device unless you choose to connect to a third-party service or a feature requires online processing. You can remove local app data using Android system settings or by uninstalling the app. Information sent to third-party services is retained according to those services' policies. We use reasonable technical measures to protect information handled by the app.
Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with service providers that operate app functionality, analytics, crash reporting, billing, ads, or AI-provider integrations, or when required by law.
Children
Codex is intended for developers and is not directed to children under 13. Do not use the app if you are under 13.
Your Choices
You can choose not to sign in, not to add API keys, revoke Android permissions in system settings, clear app data, or uninstall the app. To delete information held by a third-party provider, contact that provider directly.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
